Jim Dollar is a fine photographer and a philosopher. Anyone who loves taking photographs, either for the challenge of getting the best from a scene or simply for the pleasure of going out with a camera over their shoulder, will love Jim Dollar's book. Within a few pages I'd taken to Jim Dollar. He says he cannot sell his work. Can't see why - his photographs are outstanding! I'd love to meet him and have a conversation about photography. A lovely book and a five star man!
This kindle book didn't cost a penny; it was a freebie....and thank God!
the description on the store didn't tell me a great deal and so perhaps my review is a little unfair...however I had hoped for some great pointers on how he took the wonderful images in the first bunch of pages - and they are, wonderful pictures... Though once you start to read; and I did, about 80 pages... You begin to realise that the author would have himself be a writer first and photographer a distant second. It seems to be a book filled with analogies on 'seeing things, and not a whole lot else.
Maybe content after the first 300 pages (I skipped a few) gets to the meat of photography, I just couldn't read anymore...
Sorry to the author, who must have poured his heart and soul into this... It just didn't deliver much in the way of of photographically oriented content...
Jim Dollar's books are my life-support system and I read each morning from his writings, the latest being Notes on Photography
and recommend it to everyone who ponders life's significance and purpose . . . and I love his humor!
