Taken by Storm Angela Morrison Books
Angela Morrison wrote a book called SING ME TO SLEEP, which hooked me on her writing. I recently splashed into another beautiful series by her.The first book is TAKEN BY STORM, a rich, colorful book about a boy who has spent his life diving with his parents into the vivid cerulean world of reef and wreck. Michael's friends are the rays and clownfish and other divers. A raging storm takes everything from him, leaving him a wreck, marooned at his Gram's without his beloved parents, and without the ocean he loves.
Leesie is a girl with her life mapped out. She has strong morals and a plan for her life that doesn't include falling in love with broken down diver boys who don't share her convictions. She is setting sail for BYU. But Michael, in his deep need, somehow snags her heart. She can't stop herself from giving him almost all he needs to heal. Her dilemma is in knowing how much to give him. Because if she gives too much, she loses herself.
I LOVED this book. I too have had this kind of dilemma in my past. A boy who needed saving--who wanted more than I was prepared to give him. I'm glad that Leesie understood what a precious gift her virginity would be to the man who could be the husband she needed. I loved how she was his life raft. I loved Michael's world of diving along the sea walls and among the wrecks and caverns of the deep sea. And I'm so glad Michael never stops loving her. He learns what it takes to keep his life raft close.
This book reminds me what it's like to dive, and reminds me how much I want to get back into the water with a tank on my back. It's the perfect beach book--you know--for that time when you AREN'T in the water. I fully recommend it.

Taken by Storm Angela Morrison Books Reviews
This book Taken by Storm was recommended to me so I read it. I cried thru most of the "Taken by Storm" then skipped book 2 "Unbroken Connection" and went directly to book 3 "Cayman Summer" to see how it ended.I have never done that with any series before but I couldn't possibly guess the ending. After reading all 3 I recommended them to my niece who is in high school because I believe there are multiple valuable lessons we can all learn without having to face the challenges directly ourselves. I wish I head read this before my dating years so I could have made better choices and understand someones else's perspective. I only gave it 4 stars because the whole writing style and concept is difficult if you are not a diver or a poet.
Unlike most novels written about Mormons, TAKEN BY STORM is accurate, honest, realistic and not at all preachy. It takes an unflinching look at a complicated relationship - Michael is a bad boy who is grieving the loss of his parents. He doesn't understand Leesie's adamant refusal to have sex with him. He hates to pressure her, but if she loves him, why won't she put out? Leesie, on the other hand, is a good Mormon girl determined to "be good" and keep herself pure and "clean." In a tiny town with no real prospects, that hasn't been too difficult. Until Michael comes along. Suddenly, she's at war with herself - she wants Michael, but she also wants to be a good Mormon girl. This book should appeal to anyone who's ever been in Leesie's shoes. Even if you don't identify, it's a compelling read that's both engrossing and satisfying.

The format of this book is different from other books I've read. It switches between Michael's dive log, Leesie's private poem book, to chat rooms. At first, I didn't know if I would like it. Michael seemed crass and I wanted to hate him. However, within a few pages, I was completely sucked into the 'ocean' of Michael's stormy life, and then Leesie's 'sainted' quest to save him. I finished this free book within a day, and then had to go buy the 2nd and 3rd books to finish the characters' story. Taken by Storm uses language beautifully. Leesie's poems are stirring; Michael's dive log is intriguing; their pain and hunger is intense and drives the story forward. Their completely opposite lives make the story compelling as they clash over and over again, yet, like the ocean waves (which are a huge part of this book) keep returning to each other. Great book!
If we gather poetry's elegance, spirituality VS emotions where love and redemption fight for healing wounds left by tragedy we get Leesie and Michael in Taken By Storm. Written on different POVs and three different narrative styles, the story's narrated by Leesie from her poems and online chats, and Michael from his dive log journal. The story starts giving the reader an idea on how's life for both main characters previous to their encounter; Leesie lives on faith where she is constantly prejudiced by it and Michael lives on freedom... two opposed poles; one who lives at her moral boundary's edge and the other one not aware of them. Michael arrives to Washington after miraculously surviving the accident that took away his parent's life, empty and emotionally broken who's life lacks of sense. This improbable by their differences couple tie their lives since each one sees on the other what's invisible to the world; Leesie from the start sees someone worth saving and Michael sees in Leesie the capability and understanding to be healed. Throughout the story, the reader will be taken to see the complexity of human emotions, even more in the lives of two youngsters that are meeting love for the first time and their lives are ruled by two different moral codes. One of the biggest credits Morrison can get is for the narrators' voices. Their emotion's intensity is real and would be completely reachable with all the pros and cons. As a reader, the journey was intense. Sometimes I wasn't happy with the character's decisions and nevertheless at the end all this complexity made me admire them even more because they are a reflection of life itself and the circumstances in which youngsters could be going through. At the end, both made it to where I expected, especially when seeing that the Michael Walden I met at the beginning was not the same that left me heart ached. Leesie reminded me of my beloved spiritual mother Agnes on the teaching that redemption's nature is always there on someone if they know a heart dedicated to God to give you the opportunity.
