Sydney has always enjoyed writing. “There’s something about losing yourself in another world, where the real one ceases to exist and all your dreams and wishes can be placed on the page—dreams for a better planet where love isn’t questioned but accepted by all.”
When Sydney isn’t writing, there’s plenty of reading to be done. “I can’t imagine not reading every day. It would be weird not to have a book to hand because I’ve always had one nearby. Life without reading isn’t something I’d like to contemplate. The thought brings me out in hives.”
Sydney lives in a peaceful area where the hustle and bustle of the city doesn’t figure. “I left city life years ago. Too stressful for me. Book Four in the Highgate Shifters Series, Evan has lost all of his memory and has no idea who he is, what he is, or where he is. He doesn’t remember if he is a lion or wolf shifter and doesn’t have the ability to shift to find out. He, also, does not remember if he is mated or where he belongs, so when Christian finally finds him, Evan has no memory of who he is and that they are mated. Christian has the ability to look into Evan’s mind, but that doesn’t make the fact that Evan doesn’t remember him any less painful. Eventually, Evan’s memory returns and along with it a host of different other struggles stand in the way of Christian and Evan’s happily ever after.This story is full of angst and an internal struggle about identity and belonging. Having not read the other books in the series, I found it to work well as a stand-alone, although reading the others would be more helpful in understanding some of the other characters and the back story. For such a short novella, there is a lot of feeling and turmoil within the pages. I really enjoyed how Christian and Evan had to get to know one another all over again. It was a sweet story that was easy to read in one sitting.

Evan didn't know who he was - he didn't even know if his name was really Evan. He just knew that the world he used to think he knew had been turned upside down and was now filled with people who could shift. He did know that he'd done some horrible things - against nice people who had been trying to help him ever since - Dillon and Sergeant - and these two men struggled to get Evan to understand that his mind had been taken over at the time, and that it wasn't his fault. What he did know was that he had an animal inside of him, but he had no way of knowing whether he was a lion or a wolf - it wasn't as though he could shift.
The author does a great job of explaining Evan's inner turmoil so that when Christian finally sees him, after months of searching for him, it's no surprise to us, the readers, that Evan doesn't recognize his mate. Christian is one of life's good guys. He had kept looking for Evan even when he couldn't sense him in his mind anymore. Christian had the advantage of being able to see into Evan's mind, so he knew what had happened to his mate, but that didn't make it any easier to deal with when they do meet up. For Evan their relationship is new and yet Christian has the advantage of the memories of the life they had shared together.
Unfortunately it can't be all plain sailing. Evan does get his memories back, but Valerie is a loose cannon and things get quite murky there for a while. There's the threat on Dillon to contend with and how does a wolf pack come to terms with living with two lions?
This is a relatively light story, very little angst and the author handled the reuniting of two mates beautifully. The mind thing made the whole situation easier for everyone to deal with. As you will note this is part of a series and while you might get a bit more out of the story if you have read the others, it can be read as a standalone. The story of Dillon and Sergeant though is definitely worth going back for though.
Evan has been unsuccessful at coming to terms with who and what he is until he meets Christian and comes to the realization that his animal will no longer be caged in this gripping paranormal romance. After the events that took place in Dillon’s Decisions, I have been impatiently waiting for Evan’s story and I was not disappointed and there was no way that I could put the story down once I started reading it. In regards to that, I must recommend that you read the series in sequence to get the full impact of the ongoing pack’s story as they all build on one another.
