Transference Jeff Fuell Books

I enjoyed TRANSFERENCE; it's an interesting story, written with heartfelt emotion. I've rated the novel 4 stars on the basis of that emotion - the very touching relationship between reincarnated murder victim Michael and his young son. Although a mash-up of GHOST, FREAKY FRIDAY, and DIARY OF A WIMPY KID, the emotion in the story is genuine, and author Jeff Fuell succeeds in making the reader care about his characters.

The plot is straight-forward, with a few twists along the way. Murdered corporate accountant Michael finds himself in the body of his young son's best friend Tommy, a preteen boy who has been in a coma for several months. Michael is determined to protect and comfort his bereaved son, and to solve his own murder as well. Help comes from an unexpected ally - Tommy's perceptive and precocious little sister.

This engaging novel seems to me to be best categorized as a Young Adult supernatural fantasy. The school Michael stoically attends is absurdly over the top; any school that actually operated so haplessly would have been buried in lawsuits. Still, the author does capture some truth of the way a lot of kids think and feel about school.

Although Michael is an adult, the viewpoint of TRANSFERENCE is largely a kid's eye view of the world. Adults are preoccupied, distracted, stressed out, befuddled, both overly-protective and oddly unaware of what their children are actually doing. They are kind and well-meaning (except the villain, of course), but mostly clueless. Still, the story is entertaining, and the resolution of Michael's relationship with his son is touching and satisfying.

I do wish, however, that the novel had been more carefully edited, particularly its second half.

Transference Jeff Fuell Books Reviews

This was a great read! It flowed nicely. Very entertaining. Very heart felt. The characters were 'real'. I felt like I knew them and I cared about them. There's a nice balance of humor, drama and suspense and intrigue in the book and it propels it at a level that kept my interest piqued. Jeff Fuell's writing style especially enabled me to see vividly all the scenes in his book. It was like I was that 'fly on the wall' watching and observing what was happening close-up. I was sorry it ended. I could have spent much more time with Michael Potters.
The story moves fast, a little too fast sometimes. But the author shows a real passion for story-telling and a good grasp of the essentials of a thriller. The idea of reliving grade school days, good and bad, is great fun. Adding the murder of the protagonist gives it a fresh twist. There's lots of humor which keeps the story from being too heavy.
Transference by Jeff Fuell

I really enjoyed this book! It had a little bit of everything,
mystery, edge of your seat drama, laughter and tears. I would
totally recommend this to my friends. I'm not going to talk too much about the story line other than we all can remember sitting behind someone in school and wishing we could sit anywhere else LOL! (you'll
see what I mean ;)
Look forward to reading
more by Jeff Fuell.
Michael Potter is a single father who is trying the best he knows how to raise his 12 year old son. He lost his wife to cancer and his son's best friend is in a coma, so his life knows no shortage of tragedy and drama. But he has no idea how much worse it's going to get. He stumbles upon some weird accounts with large amounts of money in them at work. Before he has the chance to investigate it, he is murdered in the parking lot at work. When he arrives at the hospital, his spirit is pulled into a room where his son's best friend, Tommy Harris is laying in a coma. The next thing he knows, he wakes up in the kids body. Now, he has to pretend to be Tommy while he tries to figure out who killed him so that he can move on and not be stuck living as a kid again. Easier said than done.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This story sounded really good to me and it started out with a bang. My problem was that it was too wordy. There was too much dialogue and not enough action. There were also times where the author was reiterating things that happened, almost like it was a sequel and needed rehashing for the reader to remember what had happened in the first book. The ending came about abruptly and all the action was over in a short period of time. One of the things that bothered me was when the police showed up at the end of the book. It didn't seem believable the way that they knocked and yelled on the door when there was a hostage situation. Maybe I was just irritated at that point because if all of the conversation and rushing of the ending. Anyway, the premise was good, but it could've been better.
I go a whole 5 stars because this is a fantasy just about all, if not ALL, have had.
going back to childhood with your grown up mind and memories
However, this is not back to your OWN past (time travel?)the 'time' doesnt change

the author gives you an enjoyable read with wonderful characters. PLUS a terrific father/son relationship however tragic. I like the characters, the precocious sister, the gasbag schoolmate, the self pleasuring mystery guy and the mom's.
This is one man's story of being a kid again, memory intact. It makes you re think some of your fantasies (like how would or could you tell and convince any adults that its you, and also, how to NOT act grown up)
well worth the price, if thats a factor.
If you like fantasy, I highly recommend this
This story is not Science Fiction, nor does it read like fantasy. Ghost story? Maybe. Religious fiction... no, not quite (no obvious religious point of view).

In any case, it's a good, well-written story, with well-developed characters, and an interesting viewpoint -- an adult trapped in a child's body. While the plot may be somewhat predictable (and maybe just a little cliché), the author has enriched it with details and more than a few little jabs at the absurdity of modern society. I liked it, and would recommend it to others.
