This book is markedly better than the first. At least I found no plot holes. The descriptions, settings, and magical elements work for those who want a traditional fairy-tale type story. Princess Madeline and Prince Braden are still opposite in temperament, and now the author reveals how their past choices have already limited their future choices. Too bad we didn't see that in the previous book, but the author is learning.

Preparations for the royal wedding are on track until Prince Paulson arrives, set on getting his reward. He demands Madeline's hand. Battle ensues, and Madeline makes an effort to obey the King's wishes before she talks her best friend Sophia into helping her escape. Since Sophia suffers the consequences, Madeline's immunity from similar trouble annoys me. But I doubt such picture-perfect love will annoy girl tweens.

Again, the magical elements make good entertainment as Madeline trains, and the legacy of her mother becomes more evident in predicting future events now coming to pass. We see more vivid descriptions to make the scenes lifelike. Then in stark contrast to how things would happen in the real world battle, there's no real damage to a main character and no death. I shook my head.

A way with words can only get a book so far. A good critique group would do wonders to correct a myriad of errors. But for those who can skip over or don't notice the problems, there's a good day's adventure in store with a message of peace and forgiveness. I liked how the author completed the story arc for this book and introduced another. Dragons! 3 stars with hopes for more in the next book. Book 2 doesn't disappoint! Granddaughter's new favorite series
I choose this rating because I love how the author displayed the mid evil myths we dreamed about when we were little but made it so not only little kids can enjoy it
Between the clear lack of simple, basic knowledge of things (hens ARE chickens so it is not necessary to hear the "clucking of hens and chickens") and the frequent bad grammar ("holding on to his cloak with a warm smile"? how on earth do you accomplish that?) this book would only confuse young readers at a time when they should have good examples of the written word.
I chose this rating because although although I usually read much older and larger novels I am shocked to say that this book is now one of my favorites
Again, Ms. Pulioff has presented a new set of adventures, situations, and resolutions in a very enjoyable reading environment. Her words bring so much clarity to the setting, the characters, and life lessons that are intertwined with the story. This series provides an excellant forum for parents and their younger children to explore the lessons that are presented.

Upon finishing this book, I am ready for the next episode in this series. Ms. Pulioff has a bright future in the world of writing.

When we left Madeline at the end of book one, she was safely home with her family and it looked like all her trouble with unwanted suitors for her hand in marriage were over.

Not so fast, one prince is determined to have her as his bride by fair or foul means.

So begins the next adventure, including a string of complications and unexpected revelations. I won't give away any plot spoilers, but the story has a strong sense of right and wrong, a gutsy heroine that you care about, and is written with such a command of imagery you can feel and smell the medieval atmosphere. Tweens and early teens are bound to relate to Madeline's on-going problems and her creative, outside-the-box solutions. If you or your child enjoy Disney-like stories, get the first two books in the series today. You won't regret it!
