Quite well done with a fast pace. It was interesting to read about locations I was familiar with. Some extra editing work is needed. Single digit numbers should be written (one not 1) and the sprinkling of numerals in the text was distracting. A few mixed up sayings (we'll burn that bridge when we come to it, instead of cross that bridge). Overall it was a great little story.Tags : Nightfall - Kindle edition by Matthew Dawes, Jessica Dawes. Download it once and read it on your Kindle device, PC, phones or tablets. Nightfall eBook Matthew Dawes Jessica Dawes Reviews
Great read. The world is well built and you can tell the author has invested thought into creating it. Starts off a bit slow but quickly gains its footing. The one critique I have is that times there seems to be an excess of information about the world. While great for world creation, can at times be hard to read through.
Over all, fantastic story, well flushed out, open for continuation, and leaves you wanting more.
This was the lovechild of steampunk and vampires. I liked it quite a bit. The characters are deep enough to care about and the action moves the story making the whole experience feel like a race against time. There was a bit of sonder when necessary to move the plot along which worked great. If this is a first go, then greatness is assured. The author obviously understood grunt life and channeled himself. The ending felt unfulfilling but it was surely left as a door to follow on works.
Pros I would watch this movie.
Cons It would be a Netflix original.
My suggestion to the author would be to dig deeper and explore the logical leaps in the world he created. How does slang sound after such cultural drift, what do people do for a living in this dystopian hellscape, who pulls the strings in this world?
The world building is very good, gives a sense of age without just sitting the reader down and babbling on. Didn't really hold any surprises for me and character arcs were fairly predictable.
I'm not much of a reader but when I find something that catches my eye and allows me to get immersed into then I'll read non stop. That happened with this book! It is very well written and kept me intrigued the whole time. A lot of suspense and pretty fast paced which is great for me since I can get bored reading easily! I recommend it if you're looking for a great story to get lost into!
Also, $9 is a steal! I ordered it for my and bought a paperback!!!
A very talented young author with an incredible story. I was completely engaged from start to finish and am looking forward to a sequel if it ever comes out. Great pace and unexpected turns kept me riveted. I echo another reviewer in saying this should be on the big screen. Definitely the next new author to watch!
A constant battle. Blood and guts, betrayal and a weak slightly confused, but interesting story line.
The ending was just as I expected and it was disappointing.
This book held my attention from the first paragraph. Such a well-written, detail oriented, bring-you-to-the-scene or put you in the character's head and make you want to stay there piece of literature. Being from the Pacific Northwest, I enjoyed the references to many familiar locations, but from a battle-torn , post apocalyptic landscape time frame. Highly recommend for anyone interested in stories about war, survival, loyalty, faith and honor!
