I found this book gripping from start to finish. I read the book a few years ago but it is still with me. A story of horror and triumph. In our busy daily lives we might not think of what others around us less fortunate are facing. I think this story had some effect on the investigations that followed. I really enjoyed this story. The book kept me hooked the whole way through. It showed perseverance and resourcefulness in the face of tremendous injustice, and what's more amazing is that it's based on a true story. Wow!
This is a great book. It is a testament to the human spirit and what it can survive.
This is a story that will leave you certain that we live largely unaware of the courage and difficult survival of those less fortunate than most of us. The author seems to understand the pain of her characters firsthand. Once you reach the point where she makes you aware of who these young men are you will find your curiosity driving you to reach the conclusion without interruption. It is a very worthwhile read.
I could not put this book down! I see it as a movie. The author's style creates a vivid image of each scene and you feel like you are right there bearing witness to the whole thing. I hope to read more from this author soon!
I could not put this book down, either! Sometimes incredible, sometimes sympathetic! Once I started reading this novel, I could not stop it, which must be easy to read and understand for foreigners, too, because I am also from a foreign country and translating it into my native language.
A great read with exquisite detail and emotional depth. Ms. Boland tugs at your heart strings in this must buy adventure of not so ordinary circumstances.
A harrowing story and we need to be careful that this isn't still happening in our own communities. Here in Nevada, juveniles are shipped off to rural counties for "corrections" and these are counties where perhaps only 2% of the state's population resides. These facilities are big business since they are the area's largest employer. I can see how this could easily happen in Ely, Elko, and Indian Sp;rings -- rural communities that readily accept prisons or juvenile facilities that no one else wants in their back yard.
